WELCOME TO THE MASSAPEQUA COMMUNITY FUND
Q: WHAT IS THE MASSAPEQUA COMMUNITY FUND?

A: The Massapequa Community Fund is a donor advised fund within the Long Island Community Foundation, a division of the NY Community Trust, the largest community foundation in the country.

Q: WHY WAS THE FUND ESTABLISHED?

A: The Massapequa Community Fund (MCF) was established in 2001 by past and present Massapequans including actor Billy Baldwin, Jim O'Rourke, Mickey Harley and Chris Bevilacqua. Others have joined them including Bob Gannon, Rich Genovese, John & Maura Kirby, Eileen Minogue, Patrick & Lisa O'Rourke, John Patafio and Marty Voight. All members are volunteers and have put countless hours, hard work and dedication to make this fund a success. The fund was established as a mechanism to give back to the community that had provided so much for them during their upbringing and beyond.

Q: WHAT GOALS HAS THE MCF SET FOR THIS FUND

A: The MCF will provide scholarships for graduating seniors from Massapequa High School, provide grants to local grassroots organizations, and fund special projects throughout the community on an annual basis. The goal is to raise $1 million for an endowed fund to support these awards.

The Fund has provided 31 scholarships, totaling $60,500, to Massapequa High School students - 5 in 2002, 6 in 2003, 7 in 2004 and 13 scholarships in 2005. These scholarships are named in honor of NYC Firefighters who died on September 11th, as well as other tremendous individuals who all had close ties to Massapequa.

In 2004 we began to offer Massapequa Community Fund Honorary Scholarships, where individuals had the opportunity to name a Honorary Scholarship in the name of someone they loved. The cost was $2,000.00 for a one-time scholarship. The criteria could be personalized to fit the category choosen. If the choice is made to continue this scholarship it would cost $2,000.00 to reinstate it every year thereafter.
